Term-to-term

Find what you add each time: 3, 7, 11 → +4.

nth term

Linear sequence: (difference)n + (zero term). 3, 7, 11 → 4n − 1.

Generate

Put n = 1, 2, 3… into the rule.

Worked example

nth term of 5, 8, 11, 14

  1. 1Difference is +3 → 3n
  2. 23n gives 3, 6, 9… need +2
  3. 3nth term = 3n + 2 ✅
