Expand
Multiply everything inside by the outside: 3(x + 2) = 3x + 6.
Factorise
Find the HCF and take it outside: 6x + 9 = 3(2x + 3).
Multiply terms
2x × 3x = 6x². Multiply numbers, then letters.
Worked example
Expand and simplify 2(x + 3) + 4x
- 12(x + 3) = 2x + 6
- 22x + 6 + 4x
- 3= 6x + 6 ✅
